After a global catastrophe, the few surviving children find themselves in the Camp, where they live under the gun of video cameras. Every evening they must swallow a numbing drug that gradually erases emotions and memories of their past life. The children are dejected and powerless; for the camp authorities they are just “fresh meat”; a commodity is cheap labor that can be sold at a profit. But something changes when thirteen-year-old Tom accidentally finds a book of fairy tales and reads it aloud to the others. The children begin to ask questions, and the main one is: what is there in the forest, outside the Camp?
