Several random people, from fighter pilots of space fleets of human empires to ordinary passengers on merchant ships, were captured by the Berserkers in one of their large bases on the planet. On this world, oddly enough, they are not subjected to cruel experiments, but they are testing a new system for tracking people, which allows them to look even into the past, or thousands of light years to any point in the galaxy. It is at one of these points in the galaxy that a mysterious mechanism from the past appears, a witness to the destruction of the Red Race and their great war with the Builders.
