Philokalia - i.e. love of beauty. An anthology of patristic texts collected by Nicodemus the Holy Mountain and Macarius of Corinth (first published in 1782). True beauty and the Creator of all beauty is God. The texts of the Philokalia were created by people who have fully embraced this Beauty and can, from their experience, point the way to It. The Philokalia is the most authoritative ascetic work of Orthodoxy. The full name of the Philokalia: “The Philokalia of the sacred sober sages, collected from our holy and God-bearing fathers, in which, through active and contemplative moral philosophy, the mind is purified, enlightened and improved.” Amfilochius (Radovich) wrote about the meaning Philokalia: “There is no doubt that the Philokalia, as an organ of deification, as the Monk Nicodemus the Holy Mountain rightly called it, is the root and true direct or indirect source of almost all real spiritual outbursts and theological movements in Orthodoxy from the end of the 18th century to this day.”< /p>
