By comparing the life of Dostoevsky with the experience of modern gambling addicts, sociologists discovered what they called the “Dostoyevsky effect.” Using the example of the great Russian writer, the authors show that the cause of gambling addiction is often not a hereditary predisposition, but social factors, such as childhood trauma and poor ability to cope with stress in adulthood. The book offers new insight into the life and work of Dostoevsky and draws surprising parallels between his biography and the stories of other players, blurring the often elusive line between fact and literary fiction. The publishing layout of the book is preserved in PDF A4 format.
