"Sveneld" is a drama in verse, turning to ancient Russian themes of the last quarter of the 10th century. The legendary Varangian Sveneld is the famous commander of the Kyiv princes Igor the Old (878–945) and Svyatoslav the Brave (942–972). In his declining years, the governor achieved almost everything: fame, wealth, respect. But one day the irreparable happens: his youngest son Lyut is killed in the Drevlyan forests. And this event becomes a turning point in the life and fate of the war veteran and master of political intrigue.
