Історія Пенелопи Карлайл, яка стає дружиною суворого лорда Грема Тревельяна, сповнена не лише романтики, а й складних емоційних переживань. Автор майстерно передає внутрішній світ героїні, її боротьбу за щастя та спроби знайти своє місце в житті, виконуючи обов'язки дружини та матері. Хоча спочатку Пенелопа не очікує від шлюбу нічого доброго, поступово між нею та Гремом розвивається справжня пристрасть, що робить цю історію ще більш захопливою. Єдиним недоліком є деякі недосконалості в перекладі, які іноді заважають повністю зануритися в текст, але це не зменшує загального враження від книги.
