The book by St. Petersburg writer and historian Igor Bogdanov tells the history of the toilet. The subject itself has long ceased to cause feelings of shame or embarrassment in society, but essentially there has been no research on this topic in our country yet. Meanwhile, the history of the issue goes back to ancient times, when primitive man attempted to build something like a toilet. The author talks about where and how latrines were built in different eras and in different countries, until, finally, the water closet was invented in England. Since then, man has continued to experiment with space and material, so that some of the current toilets are miracles of design art. The reader will learn about what difficulties the classics of Russian literature faced in certain circumstances, what happened to the established toilet system in Russia after 1917, and what inscriptions in toilets fell into the category of eternal truths. Of course, the history of toilet paper has not been forgotten either.
