E. Sokolsky’s play “A Little Better than God” is defined by the author as a psychological drama with elements of the grotesque. This play is the premiere for Evgeniy. I am glad that I was honored to be one of the first to read the text. The play keeps the reader/viewer in suspense, it is difficult to allow yourself to relax. The long-awaited ending is thought-provoking. The author, with the last remarks of the characters, leads to the idea that no less important worries are yet to come. The collective image of the mother-in-law with her authoritarianism repels and at the same time attracts Adelaide Rudolfovna. This pretentiousness of the names of the son and mother is contrasted with the simplicity of Marina and Ivan Andreevich. They are simple in everything: names, views on life, ideas about family... Elements of the grotesque enhance the already tense situation. There is a feeling of fracture, strain, passion, inflexibility. The author managed to develop the character of each hero in the remarks of the characters, to show his face, which they show in critical situations. If you want to empathize, be indignant, fall in love and feel disgust, then you should read the play by E. Sokolsky “A Little Better than God.” Editor: Lysova A. A.
