Автор глибоко занурюється в маловідомі аспекти життя видатних радянських воєначальників, розкриваючи їхні стосунки з генсеками та політичні інтриги, які оточували їх. Відповіді на запитання про маршала Ахромєєва, Жукова, Берію та інших постатей не лише розширюють знання про цю епоху, але й ставлять нові питання, змушуючи переосмислити традиційні уявлення про радянську військову історію. Хоча переклад тексту іноді має недоліки, загальна якість книги та її зміст компенсують ці незначні недоліки.
