January 27, 1837 Pushkin was mortally wounded in a duel by Lieutenant of the Cavalry Regiment Georges Dantes. The history of this duel is shrouded in a dense veil of myths and legends. Is it fair to say that he was killed by a monstrous conspiracy in which the imperial family and high society participated? Is it true that Pushkin’s genius fell into decline at the end of his brilliant career? He experienced a difficult family drama, aggravated by many troubles. The poet could not bear the oppression of censorship, was deprived of the opportunity to manage his life and leave the capital, and was depressed by debts. Pushkin had no other choice but to fight, and in this way did he take his own life? Or was it different?
