Dr. James Hollis is a renowned Jungian analyst and director of the C. G. Jung Center in Houston. He wrote nine books. Among them is the book “Pass in the Middle of the Road,” translated into Russian (M., Infra-M, 2002). In the book “Under the Shadow of Saturn,” James Hollis reflects on the reasons for the psychological vulnerability of men. Most modern men grew up under the shadow of Saturn, a god who ate his own children who threatened his power. In our culture, boys grow up under the weight of the image of a Man - a man who must fulfill various social roles, meet certain expectations, participate in competition and be at odds with his rivals. Nobody teaches them to engage in internal search and listen to the call of their own soul. Only by resolving his problems, in particular those related to the impact of a negative maternal complex, the lack of the necessary model of masculinity and initiation rituals, can a modern man feel like a mature person, able to trust himself and build trusting relationships with others.
