In 1971, Golding published the collection “The Scorpio God,” the stories of which take the reader either to Ancient Rome (“Envoy Extraordinary”), then to primitive Africa (“Klonk-Klonk”), or to the sultry coast of the Nile in the 4th millennium BC (“Scorpio God”). The title story of the collection is a small stylized sketch from the life of the ancient Egyptians. Golding, who was fascinated by the history and mythology of Ancient Egypt since childhood, reproduces with almost cinematic clarity the life, morals and customs of the ancient Egyptian kingdom. However, in this story, as always with Golding, the primary importance is not the historical authenticity of the events depicted, but their moral and philosophical content. The parabolic, philosophical meaning of “The Scorpio God” is born from the clash of naive, tradition-sanctified beliefs that prevail at the court of the aging Patriarch , the Lord of the Upper Lands, and the “seditious” judgments of the Liar, who plays the role of a jester under the Patriarch.

The text of the book was translated from the original language using an artificial intelligence program. For the most part, the translation of the text is of very high quality, but in some cases, due to the imperfection of the technology, there may be incorrect phrase translations in the text, as well as single words and expressions may not be translated.
