Author's Note: Although this may seem like a product of my sick imagination, the incident that inspired me to write this story is very real. On October 3, 1996, the Baltimore Sun ran a short article about a Spanish businessman who walked into a church while in Stockholm. It was empty except for the coffin in it. The Spaniard, a devout Catholic, knelt down and prayed for about twenty minutes, after which he left an entry in the book of condolences, which asked to write the names of those who prayed for the repose of the soul of the deceased. No one else left any notes. When the Spaniard returned home, he received a call from Stockholm and was informed that he had inherited the entire fortune of a deceased man who turned out to be a successful real estate dealer who had no close relatives. The Spanish gentleman's noble act of faith made him a millionaire and gave me an excellent the seed for the story. This once again proves that truth is sometimes stranger than fiction!
