This is the third novel depicting the events taking place during the reign of King Louis XIV in France, from the famous historical adventure trilogy (“The Three Musketeers”, 1844, “Twenty Years Later”, 1845, “Viscount de Bragelonne”, 1848 –1850), which is connected by the commonality of the main characters Athos, Porthos, Aramis and d'Artagnan, thirsting for the romance of exploits.
