From the author: As you know (according to Gogol), the plot of “The Inspector General” is a gift from Pushkin. Allegedly, he was afraid to write a comedy himself and presented the plot to his young friend. What if Pushkin still wrote his play based on the “auditor’s” plot? In the end, in his papers there was a short entry about “Crispin”, who was mistaken for a messenger at the fair. In general, I decided to write an alternative “The Inspector General” for Pushkin. In order to become saturated with Pushkin’s language, I read only him for several days in a row. I re-read almost the entire Complete Works. Soaked. Then he opened Gogol’s “The Inspector General” and was dumbfounded. “What abomination!” - I thought, and did not finish reading. How could Pushkin be friends with this nonentity? I started to find out. It turned out that the “friendship” began after the death of the genius. Backdating. I couldn’t ignore this forgery... “Yarmonka” is scenes from two unwritten plays: “Pushkin’s Inspector General” and a biographical one about the acquaintance and “friendship” of Pushkin and Gogol. The source of inspiration was Pushkin’s notes from the fifth volume of the Complete Works and Yuri Druzhnikov’s book “On Friendly Foot with Pushkin.”

The text of the book was translated from the original language using an artificial intelligence program. For the most part, the translation of the text is of very high quality, but in some cases, due to the imperfection of the technology, there may be incorrect phrase translations in the text, as well as single words and expressions may not be translated.
