This book is a typical example of biographical prose, and there is nothing fictitious in it. This is the confession of a former prisoner who spent 20 years in the most cruel Ukrainian penal colonies and experienced the most terrible torture. But the author did not break, he remained humane and noble, with his own concepts of honor, dignity and justice. And he wrote the book primarily in order to tell what kind of abuse prisoners are subjected to, to stop torture and to bring the perpetrators to justice.
