The book is dedicated to the song folklore of the peoples of Oceania (New Guinea, the islands of Polynesia, Melanesia, Micronesia) and their modern destinies. The author strives to reveal the artistic specificity of the songs, their poetics associated with mythology and early forms of perception of reality. Considerable attention in the book is paid to the formation and development of the song epic: mythological, heroic, legendary-historical. When creating the book, the author used his notes and materials from the expedition to the South Sea Islands.
