The book by the authoritative British scientist John Dreyer is dedicated to the history of astronomy from ancient times to the 17th century. The author traces the evolution of ideas about the structure of the Universe, starting with the views of the ancient Egyptians, Babylonians and Greeks, illuminates the cosmological theories of Thales, Anaximander, Parmenides and other Greek natural philosophers, introduces the teachings of the Pythagoreans and the ideas of Plato. Книга Джона Дрейєра "Історія астрономії. Великі відкриття із давнини до Середньовіччя" є справжнім скарбом для всіх, хто цікавиться астрономією та її розвитком на протязі століть. Автор майстерно простежує еволюцію уявлень про Всесвіт, починаючи з давніх цивілізацій і закінчуючи епохою Відродження. Завдяки детальному аналізу поглядів стародавніх єгиптян, вавилонян та греків, читач отримує глибоке розуміння того, як змінювалися космологічні теорії з часом. Особливо вражає опис теорії концентричних планетних сфер Євдокса та Каліпа, а також геоцентричної системи Птолемея, які стали основою для подальших відкриттів. Хоча текст перекладено з використанням штучного інтелекту, що іноді призводить до незначних недоліків у якості перекладу, загальна структура та зміст книги залишаються на високому рівні.
