"On a bowl of scales" is a famous novel by the Ukrainian writer Oles Honchar, published in 1957. The book tells about the events of the Holodomor of 1932-1933 in Ukraine. The main character, a young collective farm worker Vasyl, finds himself faced with an important choice between his own principles and the requirements of the system.
