The historical novel by the modern Ukrainian writer Alexander Glushko is based on the events that took place in the south of Ukraine in the last quarter of the 18th century. It was then, after the conclusion of the Kuchuk-Kainardzhi peace treaty with the Ottoman Empire (1774) and the annexation of Crimea (1783), that Russia strengthened its position on the northern shores of the Black Sea. The author scrupulously examines the life paths of his heroes, who, having gone through many trials, learned the bitterness of mistakes and failures, they still do not lose the main thing - honor, decency, human dignity. Along with fictional characters, historical figures also act in the novel - Suvorov, Potemkin, Rumyantsev, Bezborodko, etc.
