Elena Pervushina’s first book was published under the title “St. Petersburg Women of the 18th Century.” Here is the second book, which tells about the destinies of women residents of the Northern capital at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries. At this time, a crisis was brewing in Russia; it was no longer possible to live as before. In the political struggle, women found the answer to the “women's question” of the 19th century. They won rights and were given the opportunity to build their lives according to their own choice. But they were immediately faced with a new question: how can women transform society, making it fairer and more comfortable for themselves and for men? Women of the 20th century had to look for an answer to it... The book contains many quotes, as a rule, from little-known works that are completely unfamiliar to the reader. These are not only memoirs and documents, but also works of art in which the authors (often female authors) expressed their attitude to certain events, phenomena and problems of social life.
