Richard III (1452-1485) is perhaps the most famous and most mysterious king of the Middle Ages. He seized the throne, removing his own nephews from power, but his contemporaries did not see anything special in his actions; however, within a few decades, Richard III began to be considered a villain and a traitor. Shakespeare described him as a monster, “a monster, hunchbacked in both body and soul,” and already at the beginning of the 17th century. Richard III had his first defenders. Historians are still arguing - some proclaim him a model of virtue, others - a two-faced upstart and a murderer. What was Richard III really like? Why does he have such a bad reputation? We will try to find the answers in this book.
