Egor Kuzmich Ligachev, a member of the Politburo of the CPSU Central Committee from 1985 to 1990, was one of those who started perestroika, and the first of the top Soviet leaders to see the detrimental nature of M. Gorbachev’s course for the USSR. Ligachev resolutely opposed the policy of collapse of a great power and was not afraid to fight the destroyers. The intense political battle between E. Ligachev and B. Yeltsin became a memorable event of the perestroika period. Unfortunately, Ligachev’s phrase “Boris, you’re wrong!” became prophetic for the fate of the state, which was soon headed by Yeltsin. In his book, E.K. Ligachev talks about all this before the court of history, and also shares his thoughts about the present and future of Russia.
