A terrible head injury suffered on the football field not only cut short Amos Decker's sports career. Now he has absolute memory and is able to remember literally everything he has ever seen or heard. Well, the suddenly acquired superpower came in handy for his new job - serving in the police, and then in the FBI... Amos, bending over the graves of his wife and daughter, is approached by an unusually emaciated man named Meryl Hawkins. The very first murderer Decker sent to prison thirteen years ago. The prison administration did not fool around with the terminally ill prisoner and released him to live out his last days in freedom. And so he came to declare that he was innocent. Amos has no doubts - everything was done correctly. However, Hawkins is soon found shot in the head, and Decker, the owner of absolute memory, reconstructs the events of those days in his head minute by minute. The more he thinks about them, the more acutely he realizes how badly he was mistaken...
