“Notes on Polish conspiracies and uprisings of 1831–1862” by Nikolai Vasilyevich Berg are based on illegal literature and previously unpublished documents from official archives. The author himself was a direct participant in the events of 1863, when another unrest broke out in Poland. He observed the developing events and published relevant notes about the Polish riot in the St. Petersburg Gazette. At the end of 1864, the governor of the Kingdom of Poland, Count F.F. Berg, invited him to collect material for the history of the Polish uprising. “Notes” was published as a separate book in 1873.
