The wonderful Russian poet, prose writer and translator Sasha Cherny (his real name is Alexander Glikberg) was born in 1880 in Odessa. While still very young, he became famous: his first publications in satirical magazines brought him fame as an exposer of petty, empty, vain bourgeois existence. But very soon Cherny moves on to “pure” lyrics, subtle landscape and psychological sketches. During the First World War, the poet was a nurse. This terrible theme sounds in many of his poems. Not accepting the October Revolution, Sasha Cherny leaves Russia forever. He died in 1932, quite unexpectedly - he was helping to put out a fire on a neighboring farm, and his heart could not stand it... The work of Sasha Cherny will not leave anyone indifferent. This collection includes his best poems from the books “Satires”, “Satires and Lyricists”, “Thirst” and wonderful poems for children called “Children’s Island”.
