At the invitation of the director of an amateur club at a nursing home, an elderly actress, who at one time was a star of the first magnitude, comes there. The director invites her to participate in the production of his play. During the rehearsals, it turns out that the director knows every step of the actress throughout her life. He analyzes not only her work in the past, but also talks a lot about the essence of theater in general. Their arguments about the theater keep them up late. The performance promises to become a sensation, but the heroine, after many years of oblivion, having received an offer to play in a repertory theater, leaves. She will return, already terminally ill, and yet agree to play in the “play of her life.” And this premiere will be her last.
