Johann Christoph Friedrich von Schiller (1759–1805) was a German poet, philosopher, art theorist and playwright, professor of history and military doctor, author of "Ode to Joy", a modified version of which became the text of the anthem of the European Union, and the famous drama " Robbers" (1781). He entered the history of world literature as an ardent defender of the human personality. Schiller’s drama “Cunning and Love” (1784) tells the story of the love story of the noble idealist Ferdinand - the son of an all-powerful minister, careerist and intriguer President von Walter, and Louise - the daughter of a poor, humiliated, dependent court musician Miller. The courtiers have unlimited power on their side, and Miller and his daughter can oppose it only with their decency, honesty, self-esteem and pride of the poor... This play is considered the most personal in the author’s dramaturgy. The book also includes the ballad “The Glove” translated by M. Yu . Lermontov is one of the most striking examples of Schiller's lyrics.
