Klaus Fritzsche was the son of a teacher, front-line soldier and disabled person of the First World War, and was brought up in the spirit of Prussian militarism and revanchism. It is not surprising that such an upbringing, Hitler’s successes in the revival of Germany as a powerful military power capable of destroying the Diktat, became fertile ground for Klaus, in 1943, to unconditionally believe in the victory of a thousand-year empire under the leadership of the Fuhrer of the German nation. He was far from alone in this. Having received a matriculation certificate, in 1941-42. trained as a flight radio operator, became a candidate officer and instructor. To receive the rank of lieutenant, he went to the Eastern Front. He was shot down over the Caspian Sea, captured, where he spent 6 years. The life of a German prisoner of war in Soviet production camps is described in detail. Fritzsche studied at an anti-fascist school, but these memoirs are not an apology for the victory of the communist worldview over the damned Nazi frenzy, but a detailed and honest story of an ordinary German young guy during the years of a terrible and great war.
