What has happened to Cassandra Devlin since she landed on another planet: from the need to make a blanket to dealing with memories of monsters in the company of local psychics. Finding out that she will not return home, Cass finds friends and a purpose in life. Unfortunately, this goal means that she has now become extremely valuable, and those same friends turn out to be guardians tasked with controlling Cass's abilities and discovering how far the Touchstone's power extends. A career as a lab rat was not at all what she dreamed of. Deprived of privacy, suffering from Injured too often and painfully aware that she will always be nothing more than a task to her fellow Setari, Cassandra dreams of at least a semblance of normalcy and control. But now, as her abilities become more and more dangerous, perhaps only tests and training will help Cass to save herself from herself.
