The story “Lenka Panteleev” is about how an ordinary boy from Petrograd became a street child. He faced many trials and deadly adventures. He unwittingly participated in the events of the Civil War (1918–1922). He had to fight for life, steal, starve and wander. He saw a lot of terrible and cruel things, but at the same time he met a lot of wonderful people who taught him to distinguish between good and evil, helped him find his place in life, become a real person.
