The regiment of Landsknechts, in which Max serves, receives a deliberately impossible task. They will have to detain in a small town on the banks of a mountain river reinforcements called by their opponents - the Swiss, led by three knights. From the very beginning, the Swiss and the Landsknechts acted as irreconcilable competitors. If they fought against each other, then the campaigns and battles took place with particular cruelty, extreme even by the standards of those harsh times.
