The year is approximately 1517, southern Germany. The young knight Maximilian goes to his first war. In war and related tournaments, he demonstrates high combat training and a complete lack of tactical and strategic thinking. The regiment of Landsknechts, in which Max serves, receives a deliberately impossible task. They will have to detain in a small town on the banks of a mountain river reinforcements called by their opponents - the Swiss, led by three knights. From the very beginning, the Swiss and the Landsknechts acted as irreconcilable competitors. If they fought against each other, then the campaigns and battles took place with particular cruelty, extreme even by the standards of those harsh times. Such clashes were called “der boese Krieg” - “Bad War”...

Книга "Погана війна" занурює читача в атмосферу середньовічної Німеччини, де молодий лицар Максиміліан намагається знайти своє місце в жорстокому світі війни та турнірів. Автор майстерно описує не лише бойові сцени, але й внутрішній конфлікт героя, який, попри свою відвагу, стикається з відсутністю тактичного мислення. Це створює цікавий контраст між його бажанням стати героєм та реальністю війни, що виявляється набагато складнішою. Сюжет наповнений напруженістю та драматизмом, а описані битви між швейцарцями та ландскнехтами вражають своєю жорстокістю. Хоча текст перекладено за допомогою штучного інтелекту, що іноді призводить до незначних недоліків у мовленні, загальна якість перекладу все ж дозволяє насолодитися історією.
