All American women enthusiastically read Mrs. Walker's weekly column of recipes and advice. But no one knows that Rose, the column's author, can't even boil water. When newspaper owner Duke Havermeyer insists she throw a Christmas dinner party, Rose must contrive to find a husband, an empty mansion, and a cook. But Duke is not so easily fooled, and she fears that her ideal plan may fail, especially when Duke's attention to her makes Rose feel less than professional.
