The plot of "Robbers of the Seas", like other novels by Louis Jacolliot (1837–1890), is based on historical facts. It is the story of a pirate society created in London at the end of the 18th century. Taking advantage of the general unrest and thanks to the remarkable abilities of its leaders, the criminal society grew into a powerful organization that united robbers from many countries. It had its own fleet and army, which not only attacked peaceful merchants, but also dared to engage in battle with regular troops. European governments had to make a lot of efforts to cope with an inexorable formidable enemy and uncover this criminal organization. In “Robbers of the Seas” the author investigates the seemingly fantastic, but in fact reliable history of pirates of the 18th century.
