“UPGRADE, Roman Style” is a provocative book, a continuation of the business bestseller “How to Manage Slaves” by Cambridge professor of antiquity Jerry Toner. However, if “How to Manage Slaves” is a reference book for a Roman “HR specialist,” then “UPGRADE in Roman style” is a self-improvement manual. The author entrusts the author to the aristocratic slave owner Marcus Sidonius Fulks to present the Roman views on how to achieve success. It is he who explains to the reader how to manage the estate and servants, control emotions and remain firm in any situation, defeat enemies and move up the social ladder, choose a wife, and generally enjoy life. Other advice may seem overly cruel and even shock our contemporary, but all of them were unconditionally effective. In many of their actions, the inhabitants of Ancient Rome were remarkably similar to us, although they valued qualities that were very far removed from those described in popular guides to personal growth. The reader just has to decide whether he would like to live according to the rules set out in the book.

The text of the book was translated from the original language using an artificial intelligence program. For the most part, the translation of the text is of very high quality, but in some cases, due to the imperfection of the technology, there may be incorrect phrase translations in the text, as well as single words and expressions may not be translated.
