Daniel Yergin's book was conceived as an attempt to understand the formation of the energy picture of the world and talk about the problems of modern energy. Despite the incredible complexity of the topic, the book is written in simple and understandable language and is more than just fascinating to read. For example, already in the preface to his book, Daniel Yergin very clearly explains the relationship between any social crisis in the Gulf countries and the immediate rise in oil prices around the world, and also talks about what political power and benefits access gives a particular country to energy sources, what safety guarantees it provides and what responsibility it assumes. Further, the book examines such issues as: • the path of development of nuclear energy after the Second World War; • the features of the oil map of the world formed after the collapse of the Soviet Union; • the transformation of the American natural gas market as a result of George Mitchell’s “shale boom”; • the search for new sources energy;• the importance of renewable energy sources for the global economy of the 21st century;• the mutual influence of environmental problems and energy.
