The basis for this book was the commentary on the texts of the Holy Scriptures by the remarkable Christian Karnam Chengalvaraya Pillai, Doctor of Theology, Bishop of the Indian Orthodox Church of the Antiochian succession. In the very personality of Bishop Pillai, the peacefulness and deepest religiosity of a Hindu were amazingly combined with the fiery love of a Christian. It not only reveals the historical and cultural context of complex passages in the Bible, but also shows, above all, their spiritual significance. Born in the East in India, a convert from Hinduism to Christianity, through academic training and experience, Dr. Pillai is now a recognized authority on the culture of the East in the Holy Scriptures.
