Vlad is a former resident of Kiev, a historian by training, lives with his wife and son in Chicago. Works as a librarian, studying by correspondence at the university for a Doctor of History degree. Everything, it would seem, turned out just fine in Vlad’s life. But the memory of one story from his youth, about one youthful self-indulgence that once ended in great misfortune for his friends, haunts Vlad. He decides to go to Kyiv to meet with friends of his youth and dot all the i's. The story was written shortly before the tragic events in Kyiv in 2013-14.
