Emil Michel Cioran (1911–1995) is one of the most mysterious figures in European philosophy of the 20th century. A Romanian by birth, a Frenchman by vocation, a thinker by occupation and a radical pessimist by conviction, he still causes fierce controversy around his personality. In one of his last books (1987), the great French thinker continues to reflect on life and death, maintaining clarity logical construction and merciless clarity of formulation.
