The work of Pompey Trogus “Historiae Philippicae”, created during the reign of the famous Roman emperor Augustus, undoubtedly belonged to a number of the most remarkable historical works of the ancient era. This work was an attempt to describe the historical destinies of mankind, from legendary times to the modern days of the author, and the central place in this work was given to Macedonia and its outstanding monarchs - Philip II, with whose name the title of the work is associated, and Alexander the Great. Unfortunately, the work of Pompey Trogus has not reached us in full and has survived only in the form of an epitome - an abbreviation, albeit quite extensive, made in the 2nd or 3rd century. AD by a certain Marcus Junianus Justin. But even in this case, the work of Pompey Trog continues to be very valuable, and sometimes the only source of information on many events and subjects in the history of the ancient world, and above all on the history of Hellenism.
