The South Pole is fraught with many mysteries. On one of the ancient maps it is depicted as a huge continent, devoid of ice. Who knows, perhaps thousands of years ago it was a thriving inhabited land! Throughout the twentieth century, humanity has been unsuccessfully trying to master the secrets of Antarctica. Not only peaceful scientific expeditions went to its shores. It is known that the leadership of Nazi Germany sent its ships to Antarctica, hoping to create convenient bases there for submarines and the first settlements for the future development and colonization of the continent. But perhaps the strangest expedition was organized in 1947, when the US government sent an entire military flotilla, equipped with the most modern weapons, combat aircraft and helicopters, to the Sixth Continent under the command of the famous Admiral Richard Byrd. According to some evidence, the battle that took place with unidentified flying objects that suddenly appeared above the ships forced the Americans, with losses, to leave the Antarctic waters. The book by S. Kovalev tells about these and other mysteries of the Sixth Continent.
