This is disgusting literature. Brilliant, disciplined - and disgusting... (Nick Cave) "Consumer" is a look at the inner world of illusion, hallucination, self-loathing, the search for identification through de-identification of a lost soul. An all-consuming book. It is not for the squeamish, although I am sure even the prude will be mesmerized by this book. The text, although hallucinatory, is extremely clear, precise, and concise: the narrator literally disembowels himself in front of the reader. In the end, I found myself with an unanswered question: are hallucinations a distortion of reality, or are they actually closer to the reality of the world? (Hubert Selby)M. Gira is an amazing writer whose faith in the power of language is almost supernatural. The Consumer is one of the purest, most frightening, and most beautiful books I have read in years. (Dennis Cooper)The book is not recommended for reading by people with unstable mental health.
