July 16 (26), 1662, the troops of the Moscow State won their greatest victory in the Russian-Polish War of 1654–1667. both in terms of the total number of fighting parties and the losses of the losing side. In the Battle of Kanev, the enemy lost 8 thousand killed, captured and drowned in the Dnieper. As trophies, the winners received 117 banners, 22 guns and the entire convoy of the vanquished. The paradox is that this battle is almost unknown to historians. Moreover, they tried to forget about the victory of the Russian troops and the Cossacks loyal to the tsar on the left bank of the Dnieper soon after the end of the war with the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. The reason for this attitude towards the Kaniv Victoria is quite simple: the main opponent of the Russian army in this battle were the Cossacks of Right Bank Ukraine under the command of Hetman Yuri Khmelnitsky, who fought on the side of the Polish king.
