“On Walking on Ice” is a poetic and contemplative travel diary of a German director who set out on foot from Munich to Paris in November 1974. Herzog was firmly convinced that if he reached Paris on time, the seriously ill Lotte Eisner, a legend of film criticism whom he admires, would remain alive. “On Walking in the Ice” is a documentation of this ritual trek, which can be read in several ways: it is a heartfelt reflection on life and death, and meditative sketches of the passing European nature, and a stream of consciousness excited by walking, and a prose movie reminding us that Only on the road do we find peace. The publishing design is preserved in PDF A4 format.
