Mai Cheval and Per Vale are Swedish journalists, authors of the famous series of novels about Commissioner Martin Beck, which received prestigious literary awards both in Europe and America. The detective genre under the pen of the Cheval and Vale spouses “ceases to be a play of the imagination and entertaining reading , divorced from reality” (“Times”). Of course, in every novel there is a difficult puzzle that the police officers under the command of Martin Beck must solve, but there is also a second plan: Sweden at that time, with all its problems and contradictions. The reader follows the criminal through real Stockholm streets, gets acquainted with both the best, “ceremonial” places of the Swedish capital, and its “green” corners. This book includes the first four novels of the decalogy: “Roseanne” (1965), “The Swede Who disappeared" (1966), "The Man on the Balcony" (1967) and "Flight to the Scaffold" (1968).

Книга "Розанна. Швед, який зник. Людина на балконі. Рейс на ешафот" є справжнім шедевром шведської літератури, який не лише захоплює інтригуючими злочинами, але й відкриває перед читачем складну соціальну тканину тогочасної Швеції. Май Шеваль і Пер Вале чудово передають атмосферу Стокгольма, дозволяючи нам прогулятися як по його елегантних вулицях, так і по темних закутках. Сюжет кожної історії сповнений несподіваних поворотів, а персонажі, зокрема комісар Мартін Бек, вражають своєю глибиною та реалістичністю. Хоча переклад тексту місцями може бути не зовсім досконалим, це не заважає насолоджуватися відмінною оповіддю. Рекомендую цю книгу всім, хто любить детективи з соціальним підтекстом і хоче зануритися в атмосферу шведської культури!
