Персонажі, зокрема професор Сетракян та епідеміолог Гудуедер, розкриваються з нових сторін, демонструючи силу духу та рішучість у боротьбі за виживання. Напруга та жахи, які супроводжують їхні пригоди, тримають читача в напрузі до останньої сторінки.
