Written in 1911 based on fresh impressions from a trip to the South Seas, the novel “Adventure” is dedicated to the struggle of man with nature, with the injustice of public morality, with the wild unbridledness of uncivilized peoples inhabiting distant colonies. The action of the novel takes place in the wilderness of the Solomon Islands, lost somewhere in the southwestern part of the Pacific Ocean. The children of the capitalist system came here, desperate people, ready with blood and teeth to tear from life the right to their place in the sun. What awaits them in a distant and foreign country? Will they win or lose? And what lesson will they learn from everything that is to happen? Jack London’s novel “The Adventure” has never been perceived unambiguously by either readers or critics. On the one hand, the writer glorifies the victory of man over the elements and man over himself in the most difficult life circumstances. On the other hand, the text reveals the author’s sympathy for a philosophy that divides people into slaves and masters, into “whites” and “blacks.” This led to the fact that in the USSR, for example, Jack London’s novel “The Adventure” was banned as a work that promoted racism. Is it really? Everyone who decides to listen and comprehend the fascinating and exciting story, whose name is “Adventure,” will have to figure this out for themselves.
