“Demons” is the sixth novel by Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoevsky, published in 1871-1872. “Demons” is one of Dostoevsky’s most significant novels, a novel-prediction, a novel-warning. One of the most politicized novels by Dostoevsky was written by him under the impression of the emergence of the sprouts of terrorist and radical movements among Russian intellectuals, commoners, etc. The direct prototype of the plot of the novel was the case of the murder of student Ivan Ivanov, conceived by S. G. Nechaev, which caused a great resonance in society in order to strengthen his power in the revolutionary terrorist circle. “Demons” is one of a number of Russian anti-nihilistic novels; the book critically examines left-wing ideas, including atheistic ones, that occupied the minds of young people of that time. The four main political protagonists in the book: Verkhovensky, Shatov, Stavrogin and Kirillov.**
