The book “Dangerous Paths of a Naturalist” is autobiographical. A young biochemist needed viper poison for an experiment. Purchasing poison abroad was extremely expensive, and the zoologist whom the main character of the book met invited him to take part in an expedition to catch snakes. In the book, the author talks a lot about snakes, the peculiarities of their behavior, the prejudices associated with them and the need to protect snakes, including poisonous ones. Ultimately, the former biochemist became a professional snake catcher.
