The long-awaited continuation of the bestseller “The Battle for Kalinin!” The liberation of Kalinin was the result of a fierce twelve-day battle in December 1941. In contrast to the almost two-month defensive operation, the offensive of the troops of the Kalinin Front was not distinguished by rapid raids of tank brigades, counter battles of mobile formations and a struggle for the airfield hub with the massive use of aviation. The offensive operation was characterized by stubborn battles in numerous settlements, turned by the enemy into strong defense centers, difficult positional confrontation in urban areas, as well as daily routine events at the front and in the rear, on which the outcome of the operation directly depended. The December battle for Kalinin was once again once showed that war is, first of all, hard work. Having broken the defenses of the 9th Field Army of the Wehrmacht, units and formations of the Kalinin Front slowly but surely destroyed the enemy’s strongholds, crushed his reserves, literally clung to the bridgeheads on the southern bank of the Volga with their teeth, repelling counterattacks by infantry and assault guns. Despite disruptions to the planned pace of the offensive, as a result of the actions of Soviet troops, a large transport hub and an important industrial center were liberated, and the front line began to rapidly shift to the west.
